![]() ![]() I may have missed on some of the nuance of some of the other games. *Full Disclosure - Of these games, I only run Trails of Cold Steel, so I might be biased there. Half(ish) game category that is an easy first step in speedrunning. Lots of great races.įinal Fantasy IV (Paladin) - Abbreviated Final Fantasy IV with lots of runs to watch and an easy entry into speedrunning.įinal Fantasy VI (Kefka at Narshe) - Pretty much the same deal. This abbreviated run hurts a bit less than the full game and is pretty easy to get into. I also think it's worth checking out a few race categories:Įarthbound (Boogey%) - Earthbound is great, but it's a bit brutal. Turbo Mode (PC only) lets you clear the game in about half the time. Trails of Cold Steel* (PC) - While the casual game is very long, this run (particularly beginner) is very forgiving and is just really a matter of knowing where to go and what to equip. You could pretty much run this on the first try with the guide next to you. Very forgiving with starting over fights.įinal Fantasy X (PS2) - This game is painfully long, however the guide for it is great as others have said. One major point of RNG in the run which can lose you time, but it doesn't stop you from finishing. Has a guide.įinal Fantasy Mystic Quest (SNES) - Fairly short JRPG with lots of resources. Item glitch helps make the game faster than the NES counterpart.ĭragon Quest 1 (GBA) - The original Dragon Quest is fine, but it's very slow without RNG manipulation. Willpower (weapon) is in a hidden Gold Chest in the Secret Cave (disguised as a bush) on the northwest. Courage (armor) is in a Gold Chest inside Lonely Cave north of The Catpital. Faith (helm) is in a hidden Gold Chest inside Hidden Cave on the east coast of Felingard. If we're talking about games that are easy to get into, here's a few to go with.įinal Fantasy (PSP) - Easy to get into. Q: What is the best Equipment in the game A: Faith, Courage, and Willpower. And it's not like they're forced to take the suggestion, any more than asking a server what they recommend and then going with something else at a restaurant. ![]() So while the general "what game should I play?" might be a bit of an open ask, asking for suggestions of JRPGs that are good for beginners to learn is perfectly fine. And this is particularly true with RPGs, because in many cases the run plays drastically different than casual play. I'll add to this that casual enjoyment of a game doesn't necessarily translate to enjoyment of the speedrun. If a game takes 200 hours of practice before you can get your successful run (even if it's not a leading time), then it's probably not a great starter game. This is like a speed run test built into Simon's Quest that is very challenging to pull off. In order to make this work, the player must get the floor drop (within 1.5 seconds) at the 6:06 minute mark along with doing everything else that morning almost perfectly. These are all walls that could deter a new speedrunner from the hobby. This is a tough challenge to achieve, but it saves 3 minutes off the final time. While it may be hard to give someone the one true answer on what to run, there are a lot of games where the speedrun is either not routed out, the run is mechanically difficult, or RNG can mercilessly kill the run. These days the most vibrant home for discussion of Progress Quest and related technologies (outside of instance raids, PvP, and other in-game interactions) is probably the Progess Quest Discord.I really dislike answers like this. ![]() Keep a close eye on the leaderboards in the new realm as characters vie for top honors.
